Understanding Ethanol Heater Design (10th May 2010)

10th May 2010
Mr Desmond Lim's office, Innovillage

Attendee:

  • Mr Desmond Lim
  • Tan Kian How
  • Marcus Tan
  • Brenda Chen

Tasks Done:

     1. Discussion on ethanol heater

          · Maximum Temperature from Ethanol would be 78°C

               · Too high as optimum would be 50°C to 60°C

          · Copper tubes would be half filled with ethanol to allow expansion

Ethanol Heater (Coil):

     2. Ethanol in tubes would expand due to solar energy

     3. Travel upwards into Digestor to transfer heat energy to the waste inside

     4. It would then condense and the cycle is repeated

Tasks To Do:

     1. Find ideal solution which would give off heat at ideal temperature range

     2. Test out to check whether this idea will work

     3. Research on other self sustainable heaters
